The Hebrews or Israelites were the forerunners to the Christian faith. To them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the sacred service, the promises, the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, came the Christ.

Hebrews are important or significant because they are Gods chosen people. They are the direct descendants of Abraham, who God promised the number of grains of sand and the number of stars there are as the amount of children he had, and Isaac, who was his first born true son, and Jacob, who is the son of Isaac and the one who was renamed by God Israel. They are the people who lived on this earth first before anyone else. Adam and Eve were the first to live and they were God's people.

Answer #2

The first answer is incomplete and historically incorrect, as it does not follow what is actually written in biblical texts.

The man eth-ha-adam whom many refer to as Adam was not formed until the 8th day. All races were created on the 6th day. Genesis 2:1-3. you will learn of the day or rest (7th day) in verse 2:5 you will learn that it had not yet rains upon the earth and there was not a man to till the soil (a farmer). Genesis 2:7 you will observe eth-ha-adam being formed. We have passed the 7th day of rest and are now on the 8th day. Therefore eth-ha-adam was formed on the 8th day.

2nd Peter chapter 3 tells us that a day with the Lord is as a thousand of mans years. Therefore, the races created on the 6th day are about 2000 years old once eth-ha-adam is formed on the 8th day. This 8th day man is again identified by our Father when he gives the order to Abraham (direct descendent of eth-ha-adam), in Genesis 17:12 to circumcise all new born males on the 8th day, as part of his covenant.

The word Hebrew first appears in Genesis 14:13 where it used to describe Abram (later Abraham). Hebrew is Strong's Hebrew word 5680 and it means to be an Eberite a descendent of Eber. You will find Eber listed in Genesis 11:15 - 17 where you will also find the complete blood line of Shem, son of Noah. In Genesis 6 you will find Noah was chosen because he was perfect in his generations (to eth-ha-adam or Adam). Abram is a direct descendent of Eber who is the son of Shem, who is a son of Noah.

Abram had three children of three women, Hagar (the Egyptian bondwoman, of which Ishmael was born) Sarah (of whom Isaac was born) and Keturah (of which several sons were born (Genesis 25). However our Father only chose one who would build the blood line to Christ, that was Isaac, the son of Sarah (Genesis 21:12, and 25:6).

Our Father renamed Sarai, Sarah (Genesis 17:15). You will learn more about Sarai in Genesis 11,12,16, and 17. Sarai was of the Hebrew people.

Finally you will learn in Genesis chapter 6 that Satan and his fallen angels attacked the women of eth-ha-adam, in an attempt to infect the pure blood line of which Christ would eventually come. They were not successful and our Father found Noah who was perfect in his generations to eth-ha-adam.

The word Hebrew identifies those people who were sons of Eber who was the descendent of Shem who was the son of Noah who was perfect in his generations to eth-ha-adam (the man formed on the 8th day). These Hebrew represent the peoples and the blood line which are directly traceable to Christ. It includes Abraham, his son Isaac and his son Jacob who was renamed Israel. and the 12 tribes (sons of Israel). The Hebrew still exist. Get a Strong's concordance and look up the word Adam, you will find it is defined by number 119 and 120. Read what the description states there in the Hebrew language concerning their appearance, for it defines a people who still exist today.

In answer to your question, the significance of the Hebrews was to identify the pure blood line from eth-ha-adam (8th day man) to Christ who came through that blood line. you will find that historical account in the book of Luke chapter 3 starting with verse 23, notice that it states "as was supposed the son of Jospeph" Further notice that there are no begets in these verses as it defines in-laws by marriage. Christ was the son of our Father through Mary. He was not the son of Joseph. Mary was of the tribe of Levi of the sons of Aaron, which is the high priest line of the tribe of Levi, one of the tribes of Israel. Mary's connection to Levi is given in the first chapters of the book of Luke. Mary is of the daughters of Aaron. Joseph is a son of the King line of Judah, through Nathan. Therefore Christ takes hold of both titles. High priest (sons of Aaron) and King (sons of David), who are all Hebrew peoples.
