Franz Schubert was a pianist. He wrote 14 sonatas, 11 impromptus and sets of variations for solo piano. Most of his songs are composed for piano and voice.
Because Schubert Piano Co. pianos were manufactured years ago, they are not considered to be very high quality, especially when compared with modern pianos.

Schubert wrote for many instruments, but his piano works are particularly popular. Listen to his Impromptu No.4 in Ab and you'll understand why he's a great piano writer. Schubert also wrote for the voice ... several operas and scores of "lieder" (songs).
Schubert is well known for his massive collection of more than 600 songs including Erlking. He wrote a lot of ensemble works including the Death and the Maiden Quartet and the Trout Quintet. Other works include 7 finished symphonies and 14 piano sonatas.
