The WAAF uniform consisted of airforce-blue serge jacket and skirt. Worn over a pale blue shirt and black tie. The hat was also made of serge in the same colour. Officers wore a fabric badge with a metal albatross, whereas the general ranks had gold-coloured metal badges - the same worn by RAF men. General ranks wore knitted airforce-blue stockings and black lace-up shoes. Officers had the option of wearing dark coloured stockings and either lace-up or court shoes (depending on their role). All had to wear their gasmask bag/box at all times.
Light make-up was permitted.
Material called cotton lisle. British WAAF's and American WAC's wore them as part of their uniforms, as well.
