I can't really speak for all of Atlantic Canada but in Nova Scotia the humidity can get oppressive so a 33 degree day in July/August feels like a dry 45 degrees. Those extremes are rare but we did have a few of those days last year. Normals would be like 25-30 degrees feels like 30-40 with humidity.
Hurricanes form the most in late summer because that is when the oceans are warmest. There is a season for Hurricanes. They start at diffrent times of the year for the Atlantic and the Pacific, but stop on the same day.

That depends on your definition of Summer. There are three traditional US national holidays that define summer. Memorial Day (last Monday of May) initiates the beginning of the summer season. Independence Day (July 4) is near the middle of summer. Labor Day (first Monday of September) marks the end of the summer season.
