Fun to ride; no seat belts, doors were ALWAYS open. Lots of sharp turns and dives (for the grunts riding in them), beautiful scenery with a bird's eye view at hi speeds with plenty of fresh air and no restrictions (you could even shoot machine guns, rifles, or pistols from them).
Worst part (besides getting shot down) was landing. Then the work began (walking thru jungles, etc. etc. etc.).
Over 2,000 fixed wing aircraft were destroyed; and over 5,000 rotor wing aircraft were destroyed (some sources have stated 8,000 helicopters destroyed).
The longest serving US jet in combat in the Vietnam War (probably in history) was the F100 Super Sabre, landing in SEA in 1961 and re-deploying in 1971.
This is a tough question, because over 7 million tons of bombs were dropped over SEA (Southeast Asia) during the war (nearly three times more than were dropped in WWII), by fixed wing aircraft (planes). This isn't counting reconnaissance and strafing sorties.
And yet, rotor wing aircraft (helicopters) have been flying there since day one. On the other hand, so have fixed wing planes...WII B26 Invaders and WWII Bearcats.
But since, choppers were used for EVERYTHING, from carrying buckets of water suspended under their bellies, to gunships attacking with 2.75 inch rockets; it'll probably the choppers which were used the most.

Yes. Vietnam was nicknamed the "helicopter war" (among other names). There were more choppers used in the Viet War than any other war in the history of mankind...before, during, or since the Vietnam War.
No. Not in WW2. There were no operational helicopters until really after the War.
No, there are many more planes flying for longer periods than helicopters.

In the 1960's helicopters were used for literally everything in the Vietnam War.

The Army has more helicopters than any other service - in large part because the only fixed-wing airplanes the Army is allowed to have are Beechcraft King Air planes that are used as executive transports and intelligence collection platforms.
US Army helicopters landed in South Vietnam in 1956. They were used in the Korean War in 1950-53.
They use helicopters, ambulances, and medevac planes... which of the three depends on urgency, and distance. Helicopters for ground ambulances are ideally used for inter hospital transfers.
No you don't do that.....The main battle techniques were they mainly used helicopters and hardly ever drived.. They were mainly on foot or in the helicopters... Dude you are so imature you little basterd
The best answer is to google it or wiki it. Is this what u want or do u mean what is nitro fuel used for? It can be used for model cars, helicopters, planes etc.
In Grand Theft Auto IV, you can fly helicopters but not planes. The game does not have functioning planes that can be piloted by the player.
