During the 1990's, US laws were changed, and the responsibilities of the US Military were expanded to include law enforcement functions. Both the Military and the Federal Law Enforcement agencies are Federal entities. They now share equipment, training, military intelligence (to an extent), and responsibilities (to an extent).

Therefore, anything that the US military has (probably minus aircraft carriers and atomic bombs), US Federal Agents are authorized to have and use. Example: During the Federal Law Enforcement siege at Waco TX on or about 1993, the Federal Agents employed US Army M60 CEV's (Combat Engineer Vehicles); the M60 is a US Army tank, and the M60 CEV is the same thing, only armed with a short barreled 165mm cannon and is assigned to the Army Engineers. Civilian law enforcement agencies can also use the Vietnam era V-100 armored car (called the "tank" by the LAPD) and M113 APC (Armored Personnel Carrier); both are machinegun bearing AFV's (Armored Fighting Vehicles).

Today, there's hardly no exterior visible difference between law enforcement and military personnel when they're wearing Kevlar helmets, goggles, Bullet Proof Vests, elbow and knee padding, and carrying hi-tech weapons. They're all doing the same thing...fighting crime and terrorism.
