Any basic oil, depending on your preference. I use 15w40, but 15w30, 10w30 or 10w40 should be fine just depends on your applications for the tractor/age. I also recommend on an older tractor that isn't in use much or hasn't been tuned to use slick 50 oil treatment. I use a napa 1010 cartridge style filter for the oil as well.

It they are the same weight oil as in SAE 30 weight oil there is no difference and they are identical. 30 weight oil is 30 weight oil synthetic or conventional.
If it is a ferguson TO-30 it takes about 6 gallons of GL-1 90 weight gear lube (mineral oil). It is one big resevoir that lubes the transmission rear end and runs the hydraulic lift arms. Be careful because you dont want to put regular gear oil in there because it is too heavy and the sulfer in it will attack the bronze.

Just the opposite, 30 weight oil is thinner that 40 weight oil and will flow better at low temperatures.
It is a multi-viscosity oil that is 5 weight when it is cold and becomes 30 weight when it is hot.

5 and 15 is the weight of oil in cold status while the 30 and 40 is the weight of the oil in operating status.
