The manufacturer recommends 5W30, but 10W30 is usually also satisfactory in most operating environments. However, if you operate your Dakota (or any other vehicle) in an extremely dusty, cold, or hot environment, you may need to use a different viscosity engine oil; in that case, check with your local Dodge dealer for their recommendation for that environment.
