The North had a number of advantages over the South during the US Civil War. Here are three significant ones and it should be noted that there are other advantages that can be selected. On the basis of three advantages, they were:1. A central government already in place while the Confederacy had to create a central government from scratch;

2. The North had a powerful industrial base that was safely, out of reach of the Confederates, to build warships, raise significant amounts of money through taxes, exports and war bonds; and

3. An overwhelming 23,000,000 population which enabled the North to field larger armies than did the South.
