She asked for her subjects to live in 'quiet Christian charity' so as long as they outwardly conformed she would be happy and they could do as they wished in private but unfortunately 283 people spoke up for their Protestant beliefs and were burned for it. When she died, her half-sister Elizabeth I, who succeeded her, reversed her acts and made England a Protestant country once more. The opposite of Mary, she executed Catholics who refused to convert.
