Another was her aloof approach when she did present herself, resulting an a hunger by many people to catch more of her when she needed or wanted attention. This was true in regards to politicians and boyfriends she dealt with.

Her character traits were quiet intellect, shrewd judgment, aversion to the press, love for attention, devotion to her family and personifying grace. She chose to keep her intelligence away for much of her life, using it only in situations where such intelligence helped people she loved (such as speaking a foreign language on her husband's behalf). She could make quick judgments of people, using this skill to maneuver in the rough and tumble of politics. She kept this private, since this along with her intelligence would chase off certain men she needed to deal with, a trait that she learned from her father when he gave advice about relationships. She had the struggle between the need to have privacy with the need for attention and recognition. While she enjoyed the attention the press gave her, she wanted to be in control of when they wanted to be in her life, and keep this attention from ruining her family's privacy (especially her children). She wanted to show grace in her public persona, so that she could be in good terms with a majority of people she dealt with.
