Jackie was concerned that she was not always an asset to her husband, but as their French visit and her tour of India proved, she was immensely popular with crowds and the media. She was unable to exercise her abilities as writer and editor until after the death of her second husband, Aristotle Onassis. As First Lady, she shunned many of the tedious tasks of entertaining political wives and utilzed Lady Bird, Rose and other Kennedy women, to allow her free time for her children and equestrian activity.
