1. planets travel in elliptical orbits around an off-centre sun. 2. the speed of a planet's orbit depends on its distance from the sun. when a planet's close to the sun it, orbits faster. when it's further away from the sun, it travels slower 3. the farther a planet or dwarf planet is from the sun, the longer its orbit *note: did this because there weren't any fricken answers on the web that was specific, easy and in point form answer. Have fun!!!!! (you probably won't) lol :P

Yes,

The three laws of planetary motion that Johannes Kepler developed are his most famous works.

The following laws The orbits of planets have an elliptical form. A line connecting the Sun and a planet travels across equal.

Johannes Kepler invented log books that he used as a tool for calculating planetary positions, eyeglasses for near and far sighted persons, the convex eyepiece, and the quintile and biquintile (astronomy) aspects

Answer #1:

Johannes Kepler believed and proved that the orbits of planets around

the sun were elliptical rather than circular, as Copernicus had thought.

=========================================

Answer #2:

Well, kind of.

To be a little bit more careful about it, faith had nothing to do with it, and

Kepler didn't prove anything.

Kepler showed that IF the planets ... including the Earth ... move in elliptial

paths with the sun at one focus of the ellipse, and IF the line from the sun

to the planet sweeps out equal areas in equal times, meaning that the planet

must move faster when it's nearer the sun, and IF the (period of each planet's orbit)2

is proportional to (the major axis of the ellipse it travels)3, THEN that would produce the

motions of the planets that we actually see in the sky, and it's simpler than any other

model for those motions that anyone else had come up with yet.

Almost a Century later, Newton showed that IFhis theory of gravitation was correct,

then planets would HAVE TO move according to Kepler's model.

We assume that this is all true. We use it every day to predict eclipses and to steer

spacecraft where we want them to go, and it works ! But it doesn't PROVE anything.

Johannes Kepler made a detailed study of the observations of Tycho Brahe. Based on those observations, he made many observations. Following, are the 3 most important ones:

  1. He discovered that the planets orbits were elliptical and not perfect circles.
  2. He discovered that the Sun was placed at one of the two foci of those ellipses.
  3. He discovered that the square of the time period taken by a planet for a complete revolution was proportional to the cube of the semi-major axis of its elliptical orbit.
These observations are now known as Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion.

Like most people of that time, Johannes Kepler did not have a middle name. Middle names did not really begin to become common until the 19th century.
