John Calvin believed in the infallibility of the Scripture. He set forth the doctrine that was latter summarized by the Cannons of Dort, and the 5 Points of Calvinism:
1 Total Depravity.
2 Unconditional Election.
3 Limited Atonement.
4 Irresistible Grace
5 Preservation or Perseverance of the Saints.
His basic beliefs about God's will were that He is absolute and decides everything in the world in advance, such as who will and won't go to heaven. This was a highly controversial view both then and now.

John Locke's beliefs opened doors to many who had been without an education in the past. He also introduced some of the basic beliefs that are the foundation of democracy and other free thinking governments. Civil rights concepts, not allowing the government to run over the top of the people, etc.
The Englishmen wanted to leave England so they could go to Calvin in Geneva where there are others that share the same idea.
