Luther had many complaints against the Roman Catholic Church.

He made a list of his grievances called the 95 theses and pinned them to the church door. These were intended only for scholars as it was written in Latin (the language of the scholars) but soon it was translated into German and was circulated among the people.

One of Luther's biggest problems with the church was the selling of indulgences. People believed they could buy their way out of sin without any faith aspect at all. Johann Tetzel said, "As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, a soul from Purgatory springs." Luther believed that indulgences were not right and biblical and would not bring people to heaven. He accused the church of leaving people in their sin instead of showing them the way to heaven.

Luther believed that you could not get to heaven by doing good works but by faith and faith alone.

That the church sold indulgences

That there was corruption at high levels

That it used too many sacraments

Luther's main problem with the Church was that her clergy was corrupt. He also protested against the flippancy with which indulgences were being distributed. In all fairness, he had just cause to protest these and was correct in his desire to try and have someone abolish these wrongdoings.

.

AnswerMost of the answer above is a combination of commonly repeated "everyone knows" and current protestant problems with the Catholic Church. The Church never sold indulgences, but it has been repeated so often for hundreds of years and made it into the history books which were written by protestants that "everyone" accepts it now.

.

There has *always* been corruption in the Church, and outside of the Church, for that matter; men are still sinners.

.

That it used too many sacraments? Where in the name of heaven anyone got that is beyond my comprehension, the Catholic Church was established by God through His Son, Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, who established it and GUARANTEED that He would be with it until the end of the world. Our Blessed Lord gave the Church the seven sacraments.

.

He put His personal Vicar, Peter, and his successors, over the Church, and granted them infallibility in faith and morals (see St. Matthew 16:17-19) and send the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth. Either Our Blessed Savior lied, and was unable to fulfill His promises, or Martin Luther and his friends made up stuff about Christ's Church and gulled people into believing it. Martin Luther had no interest in abolishing "wrongdoings" in the Church. The only thing he was interested in was beer and women: read his own words in his published writings! Martin Luther's main complain about the Catholic Church was that it called him to renounce his sinfulness and lead an upright, moral life. Martin Luther rewrote Scripture and history in order to make up a Church that was willing to accept him with his sins.

Martin Luther's disputations against the Catholic Church is called The Ninety-Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences, commonly referred to as The Ninety-Five Theses.

It outlined Luther's issues with the Catholic Church's practices regarding baptism and absolution and rejects the sale of indulgences. Luther did not believe that temporal sins could be forgiven by a financial transaction to the Church. Luther posted the theses on the door of the Castle Church of Wittenberg in 1517. The theses are recognized as the major catalyst for the Protestant Reformation.I LIKE Pizza
