Why?

Because the Anglican Church was headed by the King of England. So it followed the King's rules. The Protestant church has one head- The Lord Jesus Christ- and one source of knowledge- the Holy Bible- The Sola Scriptura principle( Only the Scripture)

You can not serve two masters. So they were called to leave, because staying would have meant betraying God.

Hope it helps.

Are there any Anglican churches in Mumbai?

Yes, indeed, there are. St Thomas Cathedral, near the Flora fountain is the centre of Anglican worship. However, the Anglican Church in India is part of a union of churches called the "Church of North India" which retains the historic episcopate and the centrality of the sacraments. There is therefore no such thing as an "Anglican Church" because the official name is "Church of North India"

Is Anglican a religion?

It depends on who you ask. The Anglican Church is considered by Roman Catholics to be a Protestant church, since it is not in union with Rome. However, the Anglican Communion (this includes all the Anglican churches, plus various affiliated churches such as Episcopalian churches) considers itself to be a part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. (By the way, "Catholic" literally means "Universal". The Roman Catholic Church considers itself the only Catholic Church, but other Churches may dispute this, or even that the so-called "Roman Catholic" Church is in fact "Catholic" at all.)

What is the difference between an Anglican and an Episcopalian?

Anglicans and Episcopalians both belong to the Anglican Communion but are affiliated with different provinces. Anglicans are part of the Church of England or its affiliated branches worldwide, while Episcopalians are members of the Episcopal Church in the United States. The theological beliefs and practices of both groups are quite similar, with a focus on tradition, scripture, and a hierarchy of clergy.

What a diocesan church?

An area of land (usually county-sized) that is supervised by a bishop is called a diocese. The most important church within a diocese where the Bishop's throne is situated (the 'cathedra') is called a cathedral. Any church within the same denomination and diocese is a 'diocesan church' in the sense that it belongs to that diocese. As an example, in an Anglican diocese, all Anglican churches are diocesan churches, but Methodist, Baptist, URC etc churches, even if they are within that diocese, are not.

There are many similarities between Catholic Churches and Church of England churches for the simple reason that all the original Church of England churches were Catholic Churches before they were stolen by King Henry VIII and appropriated for his new "church". They all contain an altar situated in a sanctuary, and a place for the people (called the nave). Many of them still contain a choir between the nave and the altar.
