Watson, Crick, Wilkins and Franklin ( died and therefore not recognised for the Nobel prize)
The visualisation that the diffraction patterns enabled, made it possible for the physical parameters of the DNA molecule to be postulated, and indeed constructed by Crick and Watson.
Well Im in 7th grade and from what i know (Im in honors) that they did not discover the double helix but they made a model of it. But it was actually Rosland Franklins work! Its actually pretty intresting! I hope that helped. ADD: Watson and Crick used the work of several scientists in order to develop their model of DNA and suggest a method of replication. Watson, Crick, and Maurice Wilkins received a Nobel Prize for their work on the structure of DNA. Rosalind Franklin did not receive the Nobel Prize because she had died of cancer before the Nobel Prize was given. If she had been alive she would have more than likely shared in the Nobel Prize.

Franklin
Wilkins and Franklin got an image of DNA in an x shape. In science this was a helix. Watson and Crick made a model out of cardboard after Watson saw the image. They realized then that DNA was a double helix.

A helix

Francis Crick, James Watson and Maurice Wilkins received the Nobel prize in 1962 for their DNA elucidation contributions.
Watson and Crick used the X-ray diffraction patterns to determine that DNA was a helical molecule. Withe the use of models, they built what we know as the DNA Double-Helix.
With the help of Rosalind Franklin, Watson and Crick built a tin model of a DNA molecule that helped scientists better understand the structure of DNA.
