He believed the Mexican-American War was morally wrong, because the United States had "not one particle of right’ to be there." He saw the conflict with Mexico as a case of bullying from a more powerful country to a lesser one. "For ten years we have been encroaching on Mexico and insulting her," he wrote. "Her people I consider a simple, well disposed, pastoral race, no way inclined to savage usages."

Nevertheless, he fought with distinction during the war, serving under Gen. Winfield Scott, with whom he shared the same thoughts.

What is the order of rank for the us airforce army?

Your question is somewhat confusing, but I will try to answer it. If you want the rank structure for the United States Army Air Corps (pre-1947) it is: Private, Private First Class, Corporal or Technician 5th Grade, Sergeant or Technician 4th Grade, Staff Sergeant or Technician 3rd Grade, Technical Sergeant, Master Sergeant or First Sergeant. The officer grades have remained the same: 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General and General. If you are looking for the ranks of the United States Army and the United States Air Force, you can use this link to get to Defenselink and see them.http://www.defenselink.mil/specials/insignias/ Hope this answers your question.

What was Ralph Waldo Emersons view on conformity?

Emerson in his essay Self Reliance argues for among other things, a type of nonconformity in deeds and actions as well as in thought. In the opening paragraph when he says" To believe your own thoughts, believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, -- that is genius." He is urging us to take an attitude which is dependant on an individuals own thoughts not societies.
