Crockett obviously helped with the construction of the ramparts where he and his Tenneseeians were stationed, and as a colonel, helped maintain order. Though no defenders lived to give details,, Mexican leaders say Crockett fought fiercely, and one slave noted that 13 dead Mexican soldiers were found around his body.
