Houses in colonial Pennsylvania were made out of brick or stone sturdy enough for harsh weather conditions. They were usually rectangular and had a chimney on each side of the house. The roofs were made from wood and were sloping. Depending social class, the house was either large for higher ranked people, moderate for middle class people, or small for lower class people. There were large central fireplaces surrounded with tiles and topped with large panels that were used for warmth and cooking.
