The battlefields of the US Civil War were booming from artillery shots and rifle and musket shots. There was smoke and shouting among the soldiers and the galloping cavalry horses.
I suppose Hawaii since this question was listed in WW2. I would have thought it was Civil War question if not for the category. The State with the most battlefields is Alaska. The Aleutian islands campaign. A Japanese submarine shelled the California coast (something like 3 shells) but there was no battle.
