The Battle of New Orleans happened after the Peace Treaty was signed.

The burning of Washington.

But there's much worse, such as the entire excuse used to go to war.

A group of American legislators known as the War Hawks saw a chance to forcibly annex Canada, and invade the aboriginal homeland that blocked westward expansion.

This didn't go over well in New England. In fact, the seven New England states knew that they'd be on the front line, and knew a Royal Navy blockade would shut down the seaports that were crucial to the US economy.

But President James Madison was stampeded into attacking the neighbour, a decision that caused rioting. New Englanders immediately began seriously discussing seceding from the Union. The state of Vermont shrugged and continued to sell strategic war materials to the British.

The US invaders, while they hugely outnumbered the Canadian and British defenders, and their native allies, were decisively defeated in a string of battles.

It is true, though, that the Battle of New Orleans was a waste of time, since it had absolutely no effect on the war's outfit. Nor was it the last battle. That was the equally strategic Battle of Fort Bowyer, in which the British took a fort that controlled Mobile Bay; all a total waste of lives.

More like terminally stupid.

The US invaders, while they hugely outnumbered the Canadian and British defenders, and their native allies, were decisively defeated in a string of battles.

They fell back, chased by the British, who took large amounts of US territory, and that blockade did devastate the economy. But the British, having suddenly freed up 100,000 soldiers with the defeat of Napoleon, chose not to send those forces across the Atlantic to finish the job. They were content to burn the White House, and sign a peace treaty that returned to the original boundaries.

The American's were beaten badly on the sea and the British raided Washington D.C. and razed the White House, Capitol, and Navy Yard. However despite these negative events Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner during the Battle of Fort McHenry about the fortitude of the American soldiers within the Fort.
