The first was an attack on many Japanese bases from the south up commanded by General Douglas MacArthur. The second was a series of attacks by Admiral Chester Nimitz from Hawaii to the west.
The Americans decided that they would adopt a "Europe First" strategy, and fight a war of attrition against the Germans in tandem with a Soviet offensive campaign coming from the East to defeat Hitler. Against Japan the Americans took an island-hopping strategy to avoid the cost of rooting out the Japanese defenders on every single island that Japan had taken during their sweeping offensives of 1938-1942.
For several hundred years, beginning in the 16th century, Japan planned to expand its boundaries. The leadership of the nation felt it was needed because of the lack of resources available on the island nation.

During World War II, the 'Europe First' strategy of the Allies was the simple commitment to concentrating superior force against Hitlerite Germany before focusing on any all-out effort against Japan in the Pacific Theater. In practical effect, this strategy led to a successful conclusion of the European Theater's conflict early in 1945; however, American forces had even before this time begun successful offensives against Japan that would result in final victory only a few months later.

It was planned to bomb Hiroshima at 8.15 am and the bomb was detonated at the exact time. Melted watches show they stopped at the planned time.
