The Boston Tea Party was the last straw for the British. KIng George concluded that concessions were not working. "The time has come for compulsion," the king told Lord North. In the spring of 1774, Parliament passed four new laws that came to be known as the Coercive Acts.
1st Act: Boston Port Act, it shut down Boston's port until the city paid for tea that had been destroyed.
2nd Act: Massachusetts Government Act, all council members, judges, and sheriffs were appointed by the colony's governor instead of being elected.
3rd Act: Administration of Justice Act, allowed the governor to transfer trials of British soldiers and officers to England to protect them form the American injuries
