Well to put it simply, it was not so much about the money or taxes or the way things were transported. It was all about rights. The people of England had different treatment then the Colonists did and this greatly unsettled them. Like any major change in the world, that event was about wanting equality.

The American colonists chose to break to break apart form England because of the unfair taxes such as the Coercive Acts- stamp, tea, etc.- and the trade restrictions that England placed on them through mercantilism.
