Dreadnaughts. Battleships constructed on or after 1906 were named after the British Battleship HMS Dreadnaught, which was launched in 1906.
Unfortunately battleships were a flop in the Great War (WWI). The only major warships to make a good showing were the battlecruisers at Jutland in 1916. One dreadnought (battleship) fleet ran away from the battle, and the other couldn't re-locate him to regain the fight (some say he got lost in the fog/weather conditions) what ever excuse people want to give, the battleships at Jutland were an embarrassment to battleship history.
Two battleships (Yamato and Musashi)
In the summer of 1916 an idea called the Big Push was thought of. This was to happen at a place on the Front called Somme. The Generals thought that by shelling the Germans non-stop for days and nights their defenses would be weakened. Then the British soldiers would be able to take over their trenches in a big attack.
Kaga, Soryu, Akagi and Hiryu. No Japanese battleships were sunk at Midway, the four mentioned above were sunk but they were Aircraft Carriers, not battleships.
Because the British Navy Battleships were UNABLE to regain contact with the German Fleet Battleships to engage them with their guns (they turned at least twice to avoid battle). The Germans sped back into friendly port(s). The Battleships (Dreadnaughts) had missed their opportunity for decisive battle; the main fight had been between "Battlecruisers" (Less Armored Warships). The only "Decisive" battleship fleet action ever fought was at Tsushima in May 1905. In that fight, the Russian Battleship Fleet did the complete opposite of what the German Battleship Fleet did at Jutland in 1916...the Russians charged directly into the Japanese Battleship Line; the Japanese Battleships crossed the Russian's "T".

Only one encounter took place in 1916 at Jutland; no battleships were sunk, only battlecruisers (plus one old pre-dreadnaught). The battle was indecisive; and is known as the "Battle of Lost Opportunities."

A group of battleships built to the same design is called a 'class' and is uslayy named after the first ship constructed. For example, the Iowa Class contains four nearly identical battleships, the first of which was named the USS Iowa. A group of battleships operating together is a task force.
