the pope in rome became angry with him because England broke away from the catholic church

Anglican Catholic Answer!

England has never broken away from the Catholic Church it is a myth! What England had done, in Henry's time, was to take the side of the Papal/ Orthodox quarrel that resulted in the split of 1054 AD. When the Eastern and The Western Churches separated on the question of Papal authority!

What Henry was to do was point out that the Canons of The Great Councils, looked upon as the intervention of the Holy Ghost in the life of the Church, said no bishop had the right to interfere in another bishops see! This left the pope without a leg to stand upon! Henry's religion however, remained Catholic as did the English Church!
