Twenty-fifth U.S. Vice President Theodore Roosevelt [October 27, 1858-January 6, 1919] became 26th U.S. President, upon the assassination of 25th U.S. President William McKinley, Jr. [January 29, 1843-September 14, 1901]. His years in the presidential office were September 4, 1901-March 4, 1909. Upon his succession to the presidency, he had no Vice President. In 1904, he ran on a successful Republican ticket with Charles Warren Fairbanks [May 11, 1852-June 4, 1918]. In 1908, he chose not to run for re-election. But four years later, in 1912, he ran an unsuccessful presidential campaign through his Bull Moose Party.
