The Northern economy had the best of all possible worlds. It was an industrialized economy which allowed for the mass production of consumer & military products. The North was also favored by crop lands that furnished various types of grains such as wheat. The economy was also rich in iron ore mines and other types of mining operations.

In contrast to this was the economy of of the Southern States.

For the most part the economy of the South was an agricultural one. It's specialty was cotton and tobacco farmed from many large plantations by slave labor.
