Many trials. If you want a list, I have a small one according to my knowledge.

To start they had little money, to provide for not as many supplies as they could have used. Another would be the fact that as they crossed they had to cross 2000+ miles on foot, carrying, and pushing their provisions. They had to deal with harsh winters across the east, and into the west. Sickness and death would surround them as they would cross, not only from the winter, but many causes. They would only be able to carry what they would be able to hold in their carts. Food and other provisions came a necessity while crossing the great plains of the east, and the rocky mountains of the west. I hope I have helped answer your problem. Their are many sources.
