The highlights of prophet Muhamed's life are to many to mention here, as many things happened to him prior to prophethood. He was 40years old when he became a prophet. He was in the cave Hira contemplating as he always did when one day the Angel Gabriel came to reveal to him the first verses of the holy Quran. This left him feeling fearful and he (peace be upon him)though he was going mad. However he received support and help from his beloved wife, who reassured him that God wouldn't forsake him as he was kind to the orphan and kept his family ties,he spoke the truth, was generous to his guests and strived for justice. This was the beginning of Muhamed's(peace be upon him)prophethood.

How is Prophet Muhammad's personality a code for all Muslims?

It is the duty of every Muslim to emulate the traditions of the prophet Mohammed (s.a.w.) this is called following sunnah, personality is the wrong term as Mohammed (s.a.w.) was commanded by Allah (s.w.t.) all the time so he did not do a single thing from himself as mentioned in the Quran. So forget these western psychological concepts such as 'personality' and stick to Quran and Sunnah. Inshalla you will be successful in this life and the next life. The question was simply framed wrongly but I answered it as best I can.
