The telephone had been invented by then. Not many people had them, but that was one way of communicating. People would have sent telegrams as another way. Undersea telegraph cables connected North America & Europe. People would also write letters. The Marconi radio telegraph was in use by then and was used to communicate between ships and land, and early experiments with transmitting voice and music by radio were in progress (but the transmissions could usually only be picked up by a tiny amount of radio hobbyists that built receivers themselves). Those would be some of the main methods of communication a century ago.
