My granfather Peter Jagunich was orignaly stationed on Kodiak Island of Alaska when he was sent to Attu and Kiska. He was selected for his winter survial skills. Many American and Canadian service men were unable to fight becase of the lack of cold weatehr survial skills. There were numerous servicemen deployed to the Aleutian Islands from 1942 to 1945 as part of the US Army. It is not possible to provide a comprehensive list of all their names. However, some notable units and individuals who served in the Aleutians during that time include the 7th Infantry Division, the 4th Infantry Division, General Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr., who commanded the Alaska Defense Command, and Colonel Henry E. Niles of the 37th Infantry Regiment.
