No, the names of the 12 Tribes of Israel are on the Gates. The 12 Apostle's names are on the foundations of the wall of the city:Revelation 21:12-14New International Version (NIV) 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.In Scripture, the number 12 represents 'organizational beginnings.'
Genesis 46:8 "And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn."
Jacob means "holds the heel" in Hebrew; so called because he was grasping his twin brother Esau's heel when he was born. He was called Israel by an angel of God who appeared to him one night after he wrestled with him. Israel means "struggled with God," or 'God rules," or "upright with God." Israel also came to be the name of the nation of all the descendents of Israel; also known as "the children of Israel," or "Israelites."
The name given to the descendants of Jacob, who struggled with God, was Israel. This name was bestowed upon Jacob after he wrestled with an angel all night and refused to let go until he received a blessing.
Your are probably referring to Jacob and Esau. They were twins born to Isaac and Rebekah. God chose Jacob to continue the Hebrew (Israel) race and He rejected Esau. Esau became the "father" of the Edomite's. They would be distant cousins of Israel. To read of the fascinating story of Jacob and Esau see Genesis, chapter 27.
They are listed in Genesis 35:23-26. Leah's sons were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. Rachel's sons were Joseph and Benjamin. Rachel's maidservant Bilhah's sons were Dan and Naphtali, and Leah's maidservant's sons were Gad and Asher. These twelve are all Jacob's sons and are the twelve tribes of Israel.
