Well, considering that it was half the size of the colonies, and the fact that it was all the way across the Atlantic Ocean... laws and rules sort of don't come across very well.

Also, Britain started taxing the colonists with unfair taxes to pay for the debt from the French and Indian War, and the colonists resisted each and every one.
