After eight months of negotiations with France, several things did not happen. One item was France's refusal to pay $20 million in damages to the US for US shipping seized by France during the undeclared war. France did agree however, to let the US out of its 1778 Treaty of Alliance. As an aside, if France and the US went to war, then there never would have been the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
