Economics:

With slavery abolished the South's economy greatly suffered and was in great need of reconstruction.

Politically:

African American's and whites were greatly divided politically--not severally as the northerns and southerners however, who were very mad at one another and for many years prior to the civil war refused to "work together" for lack of a better phrase.

That's really more of a social effect. Politically I think changes were made to the US government, and several laws and acts were passed and such. I'm not certain on specifics.

The political results of the US Civil War, was the firm establishment of the Democratic Party dominating Souther elections for over 100 years.

They were called carpetbaggers, because they put their possessions in suitcases made from what looked like carpets. In reality, they didn't go to look for political and economic opportunities, but to exploit the South. The effects of the carpetbaggers can be seen today in the lower wage scales typical of the South.

No. The root causes of the American Civil War were economic (taxation) and political (states' rights).

There are different economic and social factors that changed the west after the civil war. The slaves claimed huge parcels of land where they engaged in farming activities. The small white farmers were pushed to poverty by the war.
