The German Jews had been overwhelmingly adherents of Reform Judaism since about 1850. In addition, there were some Polish Jews in Germany and many of them were Orthodox.

They ranged from grand, ornate structures in larger cities to humble prayer houses in smaller communities. Synagogues were places of worship, education, and social gathering, reflecting the diversity of Jewish religious and cultural traditions. Sadly, the vast majority of synagogues in Germany were destroyed or damaged during the Holocaust, leading to the profound loss of this once-thriving Jewish religious infrastructure.

Nazis were a political party, as such they were only in Germany before the war, but the Nazis did sponsor like minded groups in America and Britain, amongst others.

If you want to meet a Holocaust survivor in Manchester the best thing to do would probably be to contact one or more of the synagogues in the city. Please remember that some, perhaps many Holocaust survivors do not like to talk about their experiences, so please be tactful.
In Germany Nazi organizations have been banned, but for a wide range of reasons, most of them not related to the Holocaust.
