I don't think there were any 'unintentional' consequences of the Crusades. War does not bring with it a softening and a harmonious spirit.

The official version of march through the Middle East, was to gain access to the Holy City of Jerusalem, after the Turks defeated the Byzantines, cutting the western countries off from the city. Historians are divided about this, which suggests we really don't know. The pope of the Catholic church, sanctioned the soldiers, blessed them as 'Holy' warriors, with the name Crusaders. They fought an intense war, and ultimately lost. There is a lot of mis-information about all of this. For example, Richard the Lion Hearted, the Fearless King of Britain, or England, never set foot on English soil, and did not even speak English. He was French.

The 'Holy' Roman Catholic church, the popes who supposedly had the power to cut a person off from God through 'excommunication,' were not holy at all. It was not until after the debauched and tyrannical reign of Alfons de Borja, Pope Calixtus III 1455-1458, and Rodrigo Lanzol Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, during 1492-1503, that the church by committee vote, created the celibacy rule. Those popes were not only corrupt, but were incestuous, drunkards, and held orgies with their families.

The Crusades in the middle East were largely forgotten, until historians in the 1800's began to write about it. What is left over, is a malevolence which is felt today.
