Prospect of European nations helping the enemy
Prospect of a Presidential election in mid-war
Confederates:
Virtually no industrial manufacturing base
No access to new rifle-barrelled artillery
Much smaller population from which to recruit armies
Less railroad mileage for troop transport
Violent feuding between Generals
Unable to export or import, due to blockade
President who was out of his depth
Currency not backed by assets, only by a promise of victory

north - more railroad, a bigger population, more factories for weapons(ammuntion, ect), more ships, and a stronger government. South-very experienced military leaders, defending land not attacking.
