The answers by the 2 anonymous are correct as best I can remember. I did 2 tours as Infantryman (Oct 67-68) and (Nov 70-71). The Platoon Medic, referred to as "HOTEL", came around every morning handing out the "little white pill" and once a week he handed out the big orange pill. There were rumors, stories, BS tales about guys not taking the malaria pills, who then contracted Malaria for the sole purpose of "gettin' outa of the field", the field meaning the jungle. I never personally saw any of this, but that was things that you would here about. Maybe did happen in "leg" units...

What were the little white pills you took every day during your Vietnam tour of duty?

Many were routinely offered uppers or amphetamines. It could have been quinine, or even salt tablets, depending on the year. They were called-"daily-dailies" and they were anti-malarial pills. Some soldiers and Marines purposely would not take them in the belief that Malaria was preferable to death or maiming.

What immunisations do you need for Vietnam?

This isn't the 60's. Times change and so do laws (requirements). Back in those days "malaria" was the only problem...and a tiny white pill and a large tan (flesh colored) pill was issued to the men to protect them from malaria. The tan pill was for once a week, and the white ones were for daily consumption; (hint: no one took them after the first week or two).
