Some of the most important battles in the Pacific were the following:Gaudicanal, Saipain, Guam, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. All these were important steps that were taken to launch the assualt on mainland Japan itself. Though all battles had importantese other wise the U.S.A. wouldn't have invaded the enemy held island.
General John J. Pershing led the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in world war I. Key American battles were the battle of Belau Wood and the Argonne-Muse Offensive.
The war in the Pacific was a NAVAL WAR. Land battle victories were irrelevant. A victorious army holding an island could be starved into NO ARMY AT ALL without control of the sea to re-supply it. SOME of the key naval battles in the pacific were: The Battle of the Java Sea, The Battle of the Coral Sea (Japanese tactical victory/US strategical victory), Battle of Savo Island, Sea Battles off of Guadalcanal, Battle of Midway, Battle of the Philippine Sea, Battle of Leyte Gulf (history's largest naval battle), and the battle between the British battleship & battlecruiser, HMS Prince of Wale & HMS Repulse, both of which were sunk by Japanese Army twin engine bomber/torpedo airplanes.
During World War II, quite a few battles can be cited as turning-points in the Pacific Theater to some extent. By most accounts, however, the Battle of Midway (in June 1942) is the most important, as it not only checked the northern prong of the Japanese advance; it also delivered decisive losses upon the Japanese fleet from which that fleet would in fact never recover.
There was many major battles in the Pacific and European Theaters. The two major battles for both was the invasion of Europe was Operation Overlord (D-Day as many call it) and the Battle of Midway. Where the Americans turned the tide in both theaters in these battles.
