Lifters making noise can be from a lot of things such as low oil pressure or camshaft may not be properly lubricated. If you have a clapsed (dead) lifter then it won't pump its self up. You can try liquid lifter pumper but you may need to change them.

Its also possible that, in the case of some engines with adjustable rocker arms, that the adjustment is too loose. To test this, back the adjustment off slowly until knocking occurs. Tighthening slightly should stop the knocking. Continuing to tighten very slowly should cause the engine to stumble and then to recover. You shoul be able to make one full turn (but consult the manufacturers directions to be sure) past the full loose point, to get the lifter into the center of its normal range.

If you cannot stop the stumbling, or you cannot stop the knocking, or yoy cannot find the centerpoint aftrer one turn, then something is wrong with the lifter system as described in paragraph one.

This all assumes that you are talking about hydraulic lifters. If you are talking about solid lifters, a rare case except in high performance engines, then there isa only one lash setting the makes sense, and the is usally adressed with the engine dead cold, using shims.

What problem could the knock sensor cause on your car?

If the knock sensor failed the CEL (Check Engine Light) would be illuminated and the engine may "ping" or "spark knock" under load. Serious "spark knock" can damage the engine if allowed to continue.

What is a knock sensor?

A knock sensor is a device that senses detonation. Detonation occurs in the engine when the fuel begins to burn prematurely; it can cause substantial damage to the engine.

What make your engine knock until it warm up?

Typically vehicles that use hydraulic lifters & have more miles on them, tend to have a tapping sound until the engine is "warmed up." The hydraulic valve train is designed to eliminate the gap at all operating temperatures, though overtime the lifters wear out and don't fill with oil as quickly resulting in the tapping sound you hear until the engine has warmed up, and the lifters have been properly filled and lubricated.
