Holes in the outer walls are generally fatal.
Holes in the inner walls cause blood to flow in various wrong directions. (This causes murmurs.) The results vary from minor and inconsequential to life-threatening. Most are amenable to surgery.
all babies have a PFO (patent foramen ovale) it usually closes up quickly after birth, if it does not it needs to be surgically repaired. if its a small hole (pfo) it won't do much damage but if its a big hole VSD (ventricular septal defect) it can be fatal.
Because when they are in the womb they do not breathe air, they get oxygen from the mother so the lungs can be bypassed and oxygen can be passed through the hole and circulated through the rest of the body. when a baby is born the hole closes so they can get oxygen from the air through the lungs.
It will require detailed investigation to assess the site and size of the hole. Small holes may close but the child will need regular Hospital follow up and serial heart scan to assess the size of the defect and may require surgery at a later date.
i dont think that that will happen as my baby was born late and she has the condition i dont think that that will happen as my baby was born late and she has the condition
The baby that was born in the book Skellig had a heart condition. The reason the baby had something wrong with her was because she was born prematurely.
Sometimes this condition corrects itself.
When you know that an embrio will be born with a serious medical condition such as a hole in the heart or incomplete closure of the heart walls then eith you fix the problem after the embrio becomes a baby and is born or you fix the problem before the baby is born
congenital heart disease
Congenital Heart disease is a term that refers to a heart condition one is born with.
If you were not born with this condition then you will not develop it during your life. The condition is generally inherited as it is a genetic mutation. However, it is possible that the mutation could spontaneously happen in any baby. The reason why this (sometimes fatal) condition has persisted in certain African populations is because it imparts a resistance to malaria.
It is called a birth defect.
the baby might be born with a birth defect
Such a condition used to be fatal years ago, but modern medicine is doing some amazing things to repair certain kinds of congenital heart defects, even in babies. Of course, not every heart defect can be cured, but great progress is being made in treating atrial septal and ventricular septal defects. I enclose a link to the National Institute of Health, which discusses such cases and what can be done for children born with this condition.
