When salt is put into water, it dissolves and exists in the water as sodium and chlorine ions. One effect of these ions is: the water conducts electricity more easily. Another effect of salt in water is the freezing temperature lowers. Another effect of dissolving salt into water, is the density increases. This is due to mass being added, while the volume hardly increases.
