I am currently replacing head gaskets in a 1984 2.8L and the gasket kit from NAPA cost me around $90 I am doing the work myself, so you can estimate 6 to 8 hrs from a repair shop maybe up to 10 hrs. They're hourly rate is dependant on where you live here in Western KY it's $50 to $60 per man hour + parts. If it is not a head gasket but the head being cracked a machine shop will charge $120 to $150 to machine each head (if it is salvagable). There is no way to tell which is bad until it is removed and inspected. Best bet is to call a repair shop and verify how long "the book" says it takes to replace gasket(s).
