I also have a Dell Dimension but mine is the 4600 they still look the same.
Firstly why doesn't it have a CD drive. If you took it out and you still have it consult your Dell Dimension 4700 on how to put it back in. If its broken you will have to buy a new one but buy one that is built for your computer.
I bought a Wireless Adapter from eBay quite cheaply and it works great. Wireless Adapters are easier to use then Wireless Cards, you have to plug them in to a PCI slot and take your computer apart and stuff like that. I also obtained a Wireless Card before my adapter and it worked but then died (I didn't do anything to it to cause its death).
With a Wireless Adapter all you have to do is install the drivers which you can easily obtain through the internet and plug it into a USB port (if you have a problem with number of USB ports you could buy a USB hub). I bought mine about 3 months ago and it still works to the same quality of when I bought it. If you buy it off eBay it is reasonably cheap and if you buy it from a big store they will most likely accept refunds and offer a warranty.
I hope I have given you a few things to think about.
