most likely cause is faulty wires. on that model they tend to get weak from the heat of the exhaust manifold and cause problems -while driving. I replace mine every 4 years. Could also be clogged fuel filter, bad plugs, distributor cap, vaccuum leaks, or clogged fuel injectors. Happened to me 3 times and it was usually wires. Try a tune up before anything else.
A faulty muffler will not cause this but a clogged catalytic converter will.
If the smoke is black it could be caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator which could be causing the engine to get too much fuel.
could be a dirty fuel filter restricting flow
Check the 1989 Honda Accords timing. If the engine has jumped time then the engine will buck and sputter.
There are many reasons why an engine will sputter when revved. There may not be enough fuel getting to the engine, there may not be enough electricity getting through the car, or the computer could be going out.
Yes it can.
Yes
It's a good possibility that the old oil was never drained, then the new oil added. Now there is way too much oil in the engine causing the sputter.
They start to sputter, stall and stop running.
Oil sputter is going to be a normal thing if the oil cap is not on while the engine is running. The engine should never be run with the oil cap open. The engine actually has less compression when the oil cap is open, and this could hurt the engine.
The vacuum system on a vehicle serves many purposes. A cracked air hose could most definitely cause an engine sputter.
if you lose ovverdrive and cruise control, check engine light comes on, its the TPS working intermittenly
