Before becoming the 19th President of the US, William Howard Taft had served as Theodore Roosevelt's Secretary of War. Prior to that, he had been a federal judge, Solicitor General, and Governor-General of the Philippines.

He never served as a state governor, congressman, US senator, or vice-president, as other Presidents had.
