There are two large groups of carbohydrates, Complex and Simple: Complex are generally higher glycemic index (sugar gets to your bloodstream faster causing a bigger insulin spike): Bran, Barley, Buckwheat, Oats...in more everyday terms, bread, pasta, cake, etc... Simple are generally considered your fruits and vegetables: Apples, Oranges, banana, lettuce, spinach In general those foods would be considered "carbs" even though some of these also contain the other macronutrients: "protein" and "fats". But they just are not a good source of these other nutrients...for example beans should generally be considered carbohydrates though they contain protein...peanuts would generally be considered a fat, though they also have some proteins and carbs. Very Respectfully,
